Nancy Bird Walton (1915-2009)

Nancy Bird Walton was born on October 16, 1915, in Kew, a suburb of Cowra. She became the youngest Australian woman to become a licensed pilot at the age of 19. Walton played a significant role in advancing aviation opportunities for women in Australia and co-founded the Women's Air Training Corps during World War II. She received numerous prestigious awards for her contributions to the field of aviation.

Hughie Edwards (1914-1982)

Hughie Edwards was born on August 1, 1914, in Fremantle, Western Australia, but later moved to Cowra. He joined the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) in 1935 and became a highly decorated pilot during World War II. Edwards was awarded the Victoria Cross for his extraordinary bravery and leadership during an air raid on Bremen, Germany, in 1942. He later served as the Governor of Western Australia from 1974 to 1980.

John Clancy (1897-1950)

John Clancy was born on June 5, 1897, in Melbourne, Victoria, and raised in Cowra. He was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Carlton Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Clancy was known for his exceptional skill as a forward and was a key player in Carlton's premiership victories of 1914 and 1915. He also served in World War I, enlisting in the Australian Imperial Force in 1915.

Stephen Larkham (born 1974)

Stephen Larkham, born on May 29, 1974, in Canowindra, New South Wales, grew up in Cowra. He is a former professional rugby player who represented Australia at international level. Larkham is widely regarded as one of Australia's greatest fly-halves and was known for his exceptional kicking and playmaking abilities. He played an instrumental role in Australia's victory at the 1999 Rugby World Cup and had a successful club career, primarily with the Brumbies in Super Rugby.

Charlie Mort (1861-1926)

Charlie Mort was born on August 20, 1861, in Avenel, Victoria, but later settled in Cowra. He was an Australian cricketer who played as a wicket-keeper for New South Wales and Australia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Mort was known for his exceptional glove work behind the stumps and played a vital role in several Australian victories. He contributed significantly to the development of cricket in the Cowra region.
